Advaxis To Develop Oral Formulation Of Live Listeria
Published: 20-May-2009
Advaxis, in collaboration with a healthcare company, Collaborator, has applied for a $2 million US bio-defense grant. The move is in response to request from Northeast Biodefense Centre to develop oral formulation of Advaxis’s Live Listeria Technology for the prevention of influenza.
Advaxis' bioengineered Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) carrier system will be used with Collaborator's influenza multi-antigen technology to produce oral vaccine against influenza.
Thomas A. Moore, CEO of Advaxis, said: “Although Advaxis had worked primarily in the development of cancer vaccines, our technology has potentially considerable use in infectious disease applications. Working in the biodefense arena opens up new opportunities for the Company's technology and it's commercialization.”
New Jersey-based Advaxis is also engaged in the development of proprietary Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) cancer vaccines, and attenuated live Lm vaccines that deliver engineered tumor antigens, which stimulate multiple simultaneous immunological mechanisms to fight cancer.
