US researchers devise new method to support antipsychotic drug development

US-based researchers have devised a new method to further the advancement in the development of antipsychotic drugs.

The multidisciplinary team includes researchers from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, together with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in Baltimore.

The new technique will determine the effectiveness of the drugs and advance drug design.

The researchers conducted a study pertaining to the treatment of schizophrenia and dementia, which demonstrated the action of antipsychotic drugs that target a complex of two receptors at the surface of cells in the brain.

The study is published online in the journal, Cell.
